      The story takes its beginning in the year 1819 when the first cyclist pedaled onto the streets of New York. The surprise thing had been brought from England. Very soon, the city council banned riding through the city on a new vehicle calling the bicycle "unsafe for humans".

      However, with time, the bicycle became the main means of transportation for the residents of the state, as it was cheap and convenient.

      Ever since New York has been the venue of the Five Boro Bike Tour - the largest mass bike rally s in the U.S. The race starts in Battery Park, goes through the five boroughs of New York along the closed to traffic on that day streets. The length of the tour is 68 km.

      About 30 000 cyclists come out on the trail. The route passes through Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island, then crosses the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and back to Manhattan via ferry to Staten Island. After completing the round all welcomed to the festival in Staten Island with live music, meal and exhibitions.

      Also in New York State an auction of antique bicycles is held annually in a small town of Kopek. In addition to the most unusual bikes of all sizes and models, from the elegant ladies’ ones to sport and racing monsters, you can here everything that in one way or another refers to the bicycle theme: accessories, parts, rare photographs and postcards.

      The auction is attended by collectors and lovers of rare things from England, Japan, Canada and the USA.

The Biker s Prayer:

May God bless you and keep you safe on this machine.

May you meet encounter the risen Lord in your travels, in the freedom of the open road, the fellowship of other bikers and in each person you meet.

May the Lord be with you at home and on the road.

May He accompany you when you start on your many journeys:

May He fill your life abundantly with his many blessings;

May He keep all your riding safe.

May His mercy, grace and love shine upon your every road.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

    Here is an interesting fact about President George W. Bush. In 2006 he organized a bike ride dedicated to Earth Day, the holiday celebrated around the world. The course of the bike ride was laid near San Francisco. Several Californian officials were invited to participate in the sporting event.

      The route passed over a rather rough terrain which took Bush by surprise, as he was used to riding only on asphalt tracks in Washington and Texas. To make things worse, it had been raining heavily the night before and the race participants fell several times in the mud that formed. However, Bush himself evaded falling.

      George Bush showed his best. When one of his assistants asked him a question en route, the president, who was pretty out of breath, joked in response: "Can’t you at least pretend that you are breathing hard?".

      During the ride, while George W. Bush was pedaling hard on his bicycle, the doctors and the guards were following him in a jeep.
