Earth Day history facts

On April 22, the world observes Earth Day. It is marked on the day of birth of J. Sterling Morton, the manager of Nebraska, in the north of the U.S., subsequently holding the position of Minister of Agriculture. It was he who put forward the idea of establishing the holiday focused on the conservation of all the good things and beauty that nature has endowed us.

When did Earth Day begin? - For the first time Earth Day was held in 1970 and since then every April 22 people around the world have been marking this holiday. Annually more than 3000 groups take part in the festive activities with about 100,000 people involved around the world.

And in 1990, the day became an international occasion, which was attended by 200 million people from 141 countries around the world. By 2000, the event saw the participation of hundreds of millions of participants from 181 countries.

The U.S. government and CEEI have been cooperating successfully in various fields since 1994. More than twenty experts in the realm of ecology from the Urals and Western Siberia visited the United States within the scope of educational programs of the U.S. State Department.

Earth Day Network is an international non-governmental organization that brings together 12 000 organizations in 174 countries around the world., Earth Day Network puts the development of environmental education as the purpose of their activities.
