Info about Robert E Lee

January 19, America celebrates the birthday of the outstanding military leader, Robert Edward Lee (Robert E Lee date of birth - January 19, 1807 - 1870). This date is marked in the states of Alabama and Mississippi on the third Monday in January.

Robert Lee is one of the most famous American generals, the army commander of the Confederate Southerners in the Civil War of 1861- 65. Thanks to the talent of the general, the South, that lacked industrial basis and, therefore, the possibility to adequately supply the army, managed to inflict some sensitive defeats to the northerners.

Once, while teaching the military academy at West Point, Gen. Lee taught military science to his future opponents - Grant, Sherman and other commanders- northerners. After the final victory of the North, the first victory over which was won in the second year of the Civil War, they treated Lee with particular deference.

In 2003, the movie "Gods & Generals», which vividly and truthfully depicted the image of Robert E. Lee was released. The film deals with the time from 1861 to 1863, when the American nation saw a dramatic split culminating in the battle of Chancellorsville.
