Happy New Year in Italy

      New Year Eve in Italy begins beforehand. The great time to celebrate New Year in Italy is the time of “il capodanno”. There are many festivals. The beginning of New Year is the period, when all italian people think about last year and with hapeness meet the beginning of the new year.

      La Festa di San Silvestro, such named the New Year’s Eve. This holiday is celebrated on 31 December. On this day family laid the table, the most special dishes are large spiced sausage “zampone”, stuffed pig’s trotter. Every dish symbolizes goodness and hapeness, for example, pork symbolizes the richness of the life in the coming year. The main drink on this feast –spunante or prosecco, the most italian people like sparkling wine. Lentils is the main star of the dinner and plays the main role.

      Italian people proud with their celebration of New Year. They make parties and we can hear and see huge midnight fireworks. In the center of large cities we can see the public displays in squares. Naples is known for having one of the best and biggest New Year’s fireworks displays in Italy.

      Such giant cities like Rome, Milan, Naples put on huge popular outdoor shows with pop and rock bands.

There are interesting facts and tradition of celebration this holiday:
- It is one custom, when the family get together to play the game called “ Tombola” like Bingo
- In the South there is one more ancient custom- in throwing your old things out the windows to symbolize your readiness to accept the New Year.
